    Janet graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. She came to FCDS after seven years at home with her children. Prior to that she was manager of accounting at Long Haymes Carr-Mullen in Winston-Salem. She has also worked for Piedmont Airlines, Society National Bank, and British Petroleum. Janet and her husband Sid (FCDS '79) have three daughters: Catherine (FCDS 2010), Sydney (FCDS 2012), and Josie (FCDS 2014).

    A native of North Carolina, Tamara graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a bachelor's degree in literature and education. She earned her master's degree in English education from Wake Forest University. Tamara, a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and a National Board Certified Teacher, began her career at North Forsyth High School, where she taught English (including honors and regular freshman English and two levels of junior English) for seven years, advised the student newspaper, and coached cheerleading. She transferred to Reagan High School in 2005, where she taught freshman English, junior English, Introduction to Journalism, and AP English. She was Teacher of the Year at Reagan High School and a finalist for Teacher of the Year for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. Tamara advised the Reagan Girls' Service Club, worked with the student newspaper, and served on the Scholarship Committee.

    Nancy grew up in the Northeast and lived in San Diego before settling down in North Carolina. She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing and has a passion for working with the pediatric population. Nancy spent seven years working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She also served as the nurse educator/manager for a large triage call center servicing many of the pediatric and adult physician practices in and around the Piedmont Triad area. Nancy has two daughters, Anna and Sophia.

    Meredith, a native of Franklin, North Carolina, earned a double major in theatre and English at Appalachian State University and a master's degree in English from Louisiana State University. Meredith taught English and theatre for four years at Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, while earning a degree in English education from Kennesaw State University. In 2004, Meredith moved to Winston-Salem and taught English at FCDS for two years before moving back to Franklin, where she taught English and journalism and served as newspaper advisor at Franklin High School, her alma mater. Meredith has been a conference presenter at the South Central Society for Eighteenth Century Studies, Georgia Council for Teachers of English, and North Carolina Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS). Meredith is delighted that her two children -- Kelso (class of 2026) and Arthur (class of 2029) -- are fellow Furies!

    Marc earned his bachelor’s degree from Truman State in Missouri, his master’s degree from the U.S. Sports Academy, and is currently working towards his doctorate in leadership in health and human performance at Concordia University Chicago. 

    Prior to coming to FCDS, Marc served as head strength and conditioning coach for Winston-Salem State University Athletics for eight years, overseeing program design and training for WSSU’s athletes. Previously, he brought his strength and conditioning expertise to the athletes of Texas A&M - Kingsville and the University of Maryland. 

    Marc holds numeral professional certifications that include: 
    • Certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) 
    • Registered strength and conditioning coach with distinction (NSCA)
    • Certified through USA Weightlifting,
    • Reflexive Performance Reset level one specialist,  
    • Certified specialist for speed and explosion for sports competition
    • Certified for sports nutrition by the American Sports Fitness Association.

    Born and raised in Florida, Michelle has lived in the Winston-Salem area for 22 years. 
     
    She started at FCDS in the After School Program, and she has worked in the preschool Turtles class since April 2022.
     
    Michelle and her husband have four children and two grandchildren.

    Terry earned his bachelor’s degree in music and his master’s degree in music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has taught choral music for almost 30 years. Prior to his 2016 return to FCDS (Terry was originally hired by Headmaster Gordon Bingham), he taught choral music at R.J. Reynolds Arts Magnet High School since 1990. He developed an extracurricular show choir, a gospel choir, and a capella ensembles and served as stage and music director for the school’s musicals. Terry chaired the Performing Arts Department from 1993-1997 and from 2001-2007 and was a certified mentor teacher from 2005-2013. Terry is extremely active on the Winston-Salem music scene. He has been the church music director at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church since 2014. He is a volunteer rehearsal accompanist for the Winston-Salem Mozart Club’s annual production of Handel’s Messiah and he has produced the A Capella Jam for Hope from 2005-2015 to raise funds for charities through music. During his career, Terry has received numerous accolades. He won the 2015 ECHO Award for community building from the Winston-Salem Foundation; the Yale University Distinguished Music Educator Award in 2009; and twice earned Teacher of the Year at Reynolds. He was also a finalist for the WSFCS Teacher of the Year Award.

    Originally from Winston-Salem, Abby earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from North Carolina State University. She taught first grade for five years in Wake County and Forsyth County before coming to FCDS.

    Abby and her husband Justin are excited to be back in her hometown.

    Leah earned her bachelor’s degree in public and urban affairs from Virginia Tech and her master’s degree in school counseling from UNC-Charlotte. Most recently, Leah served as Associate Director of College Counseling at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. There, she managed a caseload of 32 juniors and 32 seniors whom she advised, educated, and mentored throughout the college search and application process. This mentorship included self-reflection, values identification, application writing and strategies, organization, financial aid, and final college selection. Prior to Woodberry Forest, Leah worked at Davidson College for seven years, serving as Associate Dean of Admission and Director of the July Experience.

    Originally from Burlington, Vermont, Drew attended the North Carolina School of the Arts. He taught at Summit School as a fifth grade lead teacher and sixth and seventh grade math teacher for nine years.

    RJ earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his MFA in creative writing from George Mason University.

    Over the course of his 10-year career as a college counselor, educator, and writing specialist, he has engaged students in writing centers, college classrooms, public and independent high schools, and as an admissions essay specialist. Before coming to Forsyth Country Day School, RJ worked as Assistant Director of College Counseling at Greensboro Day School.

    He lives in Greensboro with his wife and two daughters.

    Originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Michelle earned her bachelor’s degree in family and consumer science with a minor in interior design from Utah State University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Western Governors University. 

    Michelle worked for more than three years in the Guilford County Schools before coming to FCDS. She has two children: Sydney Hopkin FCDS ’21 and Mitchel Hopkin FCDS ’23.

    Tom is a graduate of Elon University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in religious studies. After graduation, Tom ran an office supply business in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which he sold in 1997 to pursue his career in education. He earned his master's degree in education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has worked at FCDS since January 2000. Starting in the fall of 2020 Tom transitioned from two decades of teaching Social Studies to Director of Alumni Engagement, but still maintains his role as Forsyth Country Day School’s special events photographer. Tom’s wife, Andrea, has two daughters: Mirielle Burke (FCDS Class of 2012) and Emma Burke (FCDS Class of 2016).

    Originally from Roanoke, Virginia, Jessica has lived in the Winston-Salem area for more than 30 years. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Piedmont Baptist College and her master’s degree from Appalachian State University. She has her AIG certification from Western Carolina University. 
     
    Jessica has been an educator for 28 years, teaching kindergarten and first grade primary reading for eight years, third grade for 11 years, and fourth grade for five years.  
     
    Jessica and her husband Steve and have two adult children.

    Originally from upstate New York, Kaitlin received her bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Fredonia State University, where she was an All-American soccer player. She has four years of teaching experience.
Our faculty knows our students’ names, supports them, encourages them, and is always pulling for them. In this way, our staff continually draws out the best in each and every child, showing them how to study, advocate for themselves, and develop a solid work ethic.
