About Nathan Battle

A native of Winston-Salem, Nathan attended FCDS through the end of his sophomore year. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and his master’s degree in teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He joined the FCDS faculty in 2005, teaching history, coaching, and serving as dean of students from 2005-2009. He served as assistant director of the Upper School from 2009-2011.

In 2011, Nathan followed his entrepreneurial spirit, leaving FCDS to help launch Grins, the “better for you” beverage company. As Managing Partner, and yes, Director of Fun, Nathan managed daily operations including production, sales and marketing, and logistics. From 2011 to 2014, he also served as Head of New Business Development at Yadkin Valley Foods, where he helped promote growth for the Junior Johnson brands.

Nathan returned to FCDS in 2017, and in that time, he has served as Director of the Upper School, Director of Admission, Associate Head of School for Advancement, and Acting Head of School.

Nathan and his wife Kaitlin have two children, Reese ’29 and Bo '32. Nathan is a huge Tar Heels fan, a dog lover (the family has a golden retriever and a Great Dane), loves to run, and is happiest when spending time with his family. You can find him most mornings greeting students in the carpool line!
