Rev. Giorgio Hiatt – Senior Pastor, Redeemer Presbyterian Church

After graduating from Davidson College with a degree in English and Education, Rev. Hiatt ran an after-school tutoring program for middle and high school students in one of Charlotte's vulnerable neighborhoods. He received his master’s degree in divinity from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, after which he co-planted Christ Central Church, a multi-ethnic church in Charlotte’s NoDa community. He and his family lived in Charlotte for 16 years prior to their move to Winston-Salem in 2012 to take up his position at Redeemer.

Giorgio and his wife, Amanda Carver Hiatt, have been married for more than 25 years and are the parents of an FCDS alumnus, Carver ’21, and a graduating senior, Springer ’24.

Joe has taught at FCDS for 20 years and is retiring this year. He graduated with honors from North Carolina State University, earning a degree in science and math education with a specialization in physics. He also completed an AS degree in electronic engineering technology from Forsyth Technical College. Joe taught physics and math at North Forsyth High School before going into the business world, working as an electronics and robotics instructor and electronics technician at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. Joe returned to education at West Forsyth High School, then joined the FCDS faculty in 2004.

Since coming to FCDS, Joe has taught physics, developed a three-year engineering program, and, for many years, served as the chair of the science department. Joe is a past recipient of the Jones Faculty Award, which honors the teacher who embodies the highest ideals of the teaching profession.
